The rock-cut tombs at al-Bad', in the far north-west of Saudi Arabia near the Gulf of Aqaba, are known locally as Maghayir Shu'ayb, the Caves of Shu'ayb. The area is traditionally identified with Madyan, the land of the people to whom Nabi Shu'ayb was sent, and with the place where Nabi Musa found refuge after leaving Egypt and lived for some years, marrying into the family of the man who sheltered him. The tombs themselves were carved by the Nabataeans and resemble those of Hegra and Petra. The site has a small visitor centre and paths between the tombs, and it is often visited together with the nearby Well of Nabi Musa.
