Bab al-Anbariyyah, also called the Hamidiyyah Gate, was the south-western gate of Madinah, built by the Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamid II in 1305 AH (1887-88). Over it were two lines of Arabic verse composed by Sayyid Ja'far al-Barzanji, mufti of the Shafi'is of Madinah, giving the date of its building. The Egyptian mahmal and its soldiers camped beside the gate every year before entering in procession through the Anbariyyah market to Masjid al-Nabawi. The gate no longer stands. Its site lies about one kilometre south-west of Masjid al-Nabawi in the al-Anbariyyah district, close to the Hejaz Railway station of 1908, which is now a museum.
