At-Turaif is the old mud-brick quarter of Diriyah, on the edge of Wadi Hanifah north-west of Riyadh, which grew in the eighteenth century as the first capital of the Al Saud. Its palaces, mosques and houses are among the largest groups of earthen buildings in the world, and it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010. The district has been restored with museums in its historic buildings, including the Diriyah Museum in Salwa Palace and galleries on social life, Arabian horses and the old treasury. It is usually visited in the evening, and the al-Bujairi terrace with its restaurants lies across the wadi.
