Al-Qaisariyyah is the historic covered market of Hofuf, dating back to the early nineteenth century. Its parallel passages hold more than 400 shops behind fourteen gates, with roofs that let in light and air. After a fire in 2001 it was rebuilt in its traditional style with the original materials. Shops sell dates, spices, bishts, leather, al-Sadu weaving and brassware, and it is busiest in the evenings; Ibrahim Palace is next door.
