The Great Masjid of al-Majdal was the main mosque of al-Majdal, the old town that is now part of Ashkelon. It was built in 1300 by the Mamluk amir Sayf al-Din Salar. Its stone minaret still rises over the old market street of the town, with the domes of the prayer hall beside it. The mosque is no longer used for prayer.
