Yakki Gate on the eastern side of the Walled City is a corruption of Zaki Gate, named after Pir Zaki, a saint remembered for falling in the defence of the city against the Mongols. His grave lies close to the gate. The original gate has not survived and the name now refers to the area and the lanes that run into the old city from Circular Road. The neighbourhood keeps several old houses with carved wooden balconies.
