The Wazir Khan Mosque was built between 1634 and 1641 by Hakim Ilm al-Din Ansari, known as Wazir Khan, governor of Lahore under Shah Jahan. It is famous for its glazed tile mosaic, known as kashi kari, and for its interior painted almost entirely with floral frescoes and calligraphy. The grave of the saint Sayyid Muhammad Ishaq Gazruni, known as Miran Badshah, lies within its courtyard. The mosque stands on the old royal route inside Delhi Gate, raised above a row of shops, with an octagonal minaret at each corner of its courtyard. It was carefully restored in the 2010s, and the square in front of it has been cleared and repaved. The Shahi Hammam is a short walk back towards Delhi Gate.
