Sayyid Abul A'la Maududi (1903–1979) was one of the most influential Islamic scholars and writers of the twentieth century. His six-volume commentary on the Qur'an, Tafhim al-Qur'an, written over three decades, has been translated into many languages and is still widely read. He is buried at his former home at 5-A Zaildar Park in Ichhra, Lahore, which now also houses an academy in his name.
