Governor's House on the Mall is the official residence of the Governor of the Punjab. It grew up around the Mughal-era tomb of Muhammad Qasim Khan, said to have been a maternal cousin of the emperor Akbar, and after 1849 the British bought the building and its grounds as the residence of the Lieutenant-Governor. The house was extended over the following generations in several architectural styles, and Muhammad Qasim Khan's tomb still stands within it. The white buildings are set in large gardens with a lake, and the house has been opened to visitors on set days in recent years.
