Bibi Pak Daman is honoured as the resting place of Sayyida Ruqayya bint Ali, daughter of Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib and sister of Sayyiduna al-Abbas. According to the tradition kept at the shrine, she came to Lahore with other women of the Ahl al-Bayt after the events of Karbala, and the six graves in the enclosure are honoured as theirs. The name Pak Daman, the pure ones, refers to the women together. The shrine lies in the narrow lanes of Garhi Shahu, east of Lahore Railway Station, and is reached on foot through a market of flower and offering stalls. The graves lie together within a single covered enclosure beneath domed roofs, and the shrine is visited throughout the day and night.
