The Summit Minar is a 155-foot white monument at Charing Cross on the Mall, built to commemorate the Second Islamic Summit Conference, which brought the leaders of the Muslim world together in Lahore from 22 to 24 February 1974. Its foundation stone was laid on the first anniversary of the summit, and it was completed in 1977. The minar was designed by the Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay, who also designed the Faisal Mosque in Islamabad. A display beneath it shows gifts and paintings presented by the countries that attended the summit. It stands opposite the Punjab Assembly building.
