About Graves of the Four Scholars

This shrine in Hillah holds four graves: those of Sayyid Ahmad al-Muntakhab, a descendant of Imam Ali al-Hadi; Shaykh Najib al-Din Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Hudhali al-Hilli (d. 689 AH), author of al-Jami' li-l-Shara'i' and cousin of al-Muhaqqiq al-Hilli; Sayyid Jalal al-Din Sulayman al-Hilli, a descendant of Imam Zayn al-Abidin; and Amir Sayf al-Dawla Sadaqa ibn Mansur al-Mazyadi (d. 501 AH), who founded Hillah as his capital at the end of the fifth century AH. The shrine and its mosque stand on Imam Ali Street in the al-Jami'ayn quarter, the oldest part of the city, and the complex has been under restoration in recent years.
