Shaykh Abu al-Hasan Ala al-Din Ali ibn al-Husayn, known as al-Shafini al-Hilli, was a scholar and man of letters of Hillah who combined wide learning with a gift for verse, and he is remembered as one of the poets of the Ahl al-Bayt. His shrine stands in the al-Jami'ayn quarter in the centre of Hillah, facing the Hillah river, a short walk from the Graves of the Four Scholars.
