About Grave of Rashid Sab‘ al-Jazirah

Sayyid Rashid was a descendant of Imam Ali al-Hadi and a member of the wider family of the Ahl al-Bayt whose shrine is located near al-Midhatiyah in Babil Governorate. Local genealogical tradition records his lineage as Sayyid Rashid ibn al-Mufaddal ibn Duwayd ibn Majid ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim ibn Idris ibn Ja'far al-Zaki ibn Imam Ali al-Hadi. He became particularly known by the title **Sabʿ al-Jazirah (سبع الجزيرة)**, meaning “the Lion of al-Jazirah,” a name preserved in the traditions of the communities surrounding his shrine. The area around the grave was historically a sparsely populated and largely open landscape before the development of the modern international highway, and his shrine became one of the recognised religious landmarks of the locality. The tomb is situated near the village of al-Bu Faris in the al-Midhatiyah area of Babil and has developed into an established place of ziyarah. The shrine continues to preserve the memory of Sayyid Rashid and his traditional lineage through Imam Ali al-Hadi, while annual gatherings are also held there in commemoration of him.
