Sayyid Ahmad al-Harith is a locally revered figure whose shrine in Babil Governorate has long served as a place of ziyarah for communities of the surrounding area. According to the genealogy displayed at the shrine and preserved by its custodians, he is identified as Sayyid Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Mujab ibn Muhammad al-Abid ibn Imam Musa al-Kazim, placing him among the descendants of the Ahl al-Bayt through Imam Musa al-Kazim. His grandfather Ibrahim al-Mujab was an early descendant of Imam al-Kazim associated with Karbala and is buried within the sanctuary of Imam Husayn. Local tradition explains the title al-Harith, 'the cultivator', through his connection with agriculture. The shrine's custodians preserve a tradition that Sayyid Ahmad cultivated a substantial tract of land and used its produce to support the poor and those in need. Land identified locally as an endowment of the shrine is said to have continued in the surrounding area. Another devotional explanation of the title understands him as one who metaphorically “ploughed away” wrongdoing and hypocrisy. Numerous karamat are attributed to Sayyid Ahmad in local oral tradition. One particularly remembered account relates that during the disturbances of 1920 British forces allegedly attempted to damage the shrine but were prevented after an incident involving their artillery. These accounts form part of the devotional history of the shrine and explain the strong attachment of local families to the site.
