About Grave of Abd al-Halim Mahmud

Imam Abd al-Halim Mahmud was born in 1910 in the village of al-Salam near Bilbeis, studied at al-Azhar and in Paris, and became Shaykh of al-Azhar from 1973 until he passed away in 1978. He is remembered above all for his many books on Sufism and the spiritual path and for his personal piety. His mosque and tomb stand in his home village of al-Salam, north-west of Bilbeis.
