About Al-Nasir Muhammad Mosque

The mosque of al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun was built in 1318 and enlarged in 1335 as the royal mosque of the Citadel, where the Mamluk sultans prayed on Fridays. It is the only Mamluk mosque left standing inside the Citadel. It has a large courtyard surrounded by arcades on reused ancient columns, and its two minarets are topped with green tiles. It stands near the Muhammad Ali Mosque in the southern enclosure of the Citadel.
