Tašlihan, 'the stone inn', was built between 1540 and 1543 as part of Gazi Husrev Bey's endowment, beside his covered bazaar. It was a large square building with a courtyard fountain, a small mosque raised on pillars, and rooms for merchants on the upper floor, and it served traders from Bosnia and abroad. A great fire in 1879 left it in ruins, and the site was later built over. Excavations in 1998 uncovered its foundations and massive walls, and in 2007 it was declared a national monument. Today the remains can be seen in the open beside the Hotel Evropa garden, crossed by a glass walkway.
