The Old Bridge of Konjic spans the Neretva in the centre of the town. It was built in 1682-83 by Ali Agha Hasečić, as recorded on a stone plaque at its middle, and it has six slightly pointed stone arches resting on five piers in the river. In March 1945 the retreating German army blew up its deck, and for more than fifty years a temporary iron deck carried traffic over the old piers. The bridge was restored to its original form between 2003 and 2009 and reopened on 16 June 2009. It is a national monument, with cafés and viewpoints on both banks.
