Jahorina rises to just over 1,900 metres south-east of Sarajevo and is the largest ski resort in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It hosted the women's alpine skiing events at the 1984 Winter Olympics. In winter it offers long, well-groomed slopes and modern lifts, and in summer it becomes a place for walking, mountain biking and fresh air, with a zip line and a cable car to the upper slopes. It is about 30 kilometres from the city centre, and hotels and restaurants line the base of the slopes.
