Al-Tawashi Mosque in Sana'a was built in the early eleventh century AH by an envoy known as al-Tawashi, who arrived in the city in 1028 AH carrying a gift from the Sultan of India to the Ottoman governor Muhammad Pasha. He also built a bathhouse beside the mosque as an endowment for it, still known as the Tawashi bath, and the grave south of the courtyard is held to be his. The mosque was enlarged in 1185 AH by the judge Ali ibn Husayn al-Akwa', as an inscription once recorded. It stands next to the older Abbas Mosque.
