Al-Fulayhi Mosque was founded in 665 AH by Hajj Ahmad ibn Abdullah al-Fulayhi, who is buried beside it, and was regarded as the most important monument of the Old City of Sana'a after the Great Mosque. It was enlarged in stages until the late twelfth century AH, and it was long used for teaching. The great jurist Muhammad ibn Ali al-Shawkani, author of Nayl al-Awtar and Fath al-Qadir, was reburied at this mosque. The mosque has a richly decorated prayer hall with carved and painted mihrab, a domed older section, a minaret, and the domed graves of its founders by the western entrance. It stands in the al-Fulayhi quarter on the road from the Sa'ila to Suq al-Zumar.
