Souq al-Milh, the Salt Market, is the oldest and best-known market of the Old City of Sana'a, just inside Bab al-Yaman. It is really a network of specialised markets, selling spices, raisins, grains, cloth, copper, silver, jambiyas and much else, and for centuries it was the meeting place of traders and caravans from across Yemen. The narrow lanes are lined with small shops and old samsaras, the caravanserais where merchants stored goods and stayed, and the Great Mosque is a short walk away.
