Al-Shahidayn, the Mosque of the Two Martyrs, takes its name from the two young sons of Sayyiduna Ubayd Allah ibn Abbas, Sayyiduna Ali's governor of Yemen, who were killed in Yemen during the conflicts of 40 AH. Their graves are associated with the mosque, and it has long been honoured by the people of the city. The mosque stands in the Old City of Sana'a with a stone prayer hall, a minaret and an open courtyard with old trees, and is surrounded by tall decorated tower houses.
