The Azem Palace of Hama is an eighteenth-century Ottoman residence on the bank of the Orontes, built by As'ad Pasha al-Azm while he was governor of Hama, before he built the more famous Azem Palace in Damascus. It has been described as one of the loveliest Ottoman houses in Syria. Its courtyards, fountains and painted reception rooms have housed the city's museum since 1956. It stands close to the norias and the old quarters along the river.
