About The Ka'bah

The Ka'bah is the House of Allah at the centre of Masjid al-Haram and the qibla towards which Muslims everywhere turn in prayer. Muslims believe it was raised by Nabi Ibrahim and his son Nabi Isma'il as a house for the worship of the One God. It was rebuilt several times over the centuries, including by the Quraysh when Nabi Muhammad ﷺ was about thirty-five, when he settled a dispute over who should put the Black Stone back by placing it on a cloth and having each clan lift a corner. At the Conquest of Makkah in 8 AH the Prophet ﷺ cleared the idols from the Ka'bah and restored it to the worship of Allah alone. Today it stands over thirteen metres high, draped in the black Kiswah embroidered with gold, which is renewed every year. Pilgrims circle it seven times in tawaf, beginning from the Black Stone set in its eastern corner.
