The Saysad Dam lies in a valley near Taif and is one of the best-known early Islamic dams in Arabia. An inscription on the dam records its building in 58 AH, in the time of Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, making it one of the oldest dated Islamic structures in the region. The stone wall was built to store rainwater for the farms and orchards of the area, and much of it still stands. The dam sits in a scenic valley that has been developed into a park, and it is a popular stop for visitors to Taif.
