The National Museum opened in 1999 in the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre in Riyadh. Its eight halls take visitors from the geology of Arabia and its ancient kingdoms through the pre-Islamic period to the mission of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, the spread of Islam in the peninsula, the history of the Saudi state, and the Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques. Among its exhibits are Nabataean tombstones, rock art, early inscriptions, models of Makkah and Madinah, and old Kiswah panels. Entry has been free, and a visit takes at least two hours; it stands in a park in the al-Murabba district.
