Makkah
Jabal Abu Qubays is the mountain rising directly to the east of the Ka'bah, above al-Safa. It appears often in the history of Makkah, and Muslim tradition links it with the splitting of the moon, the great miracle that the people of Makkah were shown in the time of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, with some reports describing one half of the moon appearing over this mountain. The mountain has been largely built over and is now occupied by a royal palace beside Masjid al-Haram, so it cannot be climbed, but it can be seen from the eastern side of the Haram.
