Khozam Palace was built between 1928 and 1932 in al-Nuzlah al-Yamaniyyah, then on the edge of Jeddah, as a residence for King Abdulaziz, and takes its name from the khuzama plants that grew in the area. The work was carried out by the builder Muhammad bin Laden for the finance minister Abdullah al-Sulayman, and it was among the first buildings in Jeddah to use cement. The concession that began the search for oil in the kingdom was signed here. The palace and its gardens covered about 13,300 square metres. King Abdulaziz and later King Saud lived there, and it later housed a museum. It has been under restoration by the Ministry of Culture in recent years and opens mainly for exhibitions, so it is worth checking before visiting.
