The National College of Arts was founded in 1875 as the Mayo School of Industrial Arts, with John Lockwood Kipling as its first principal, and took its present name in 1958. It is the oldest art school in Pakistan. The red-brick building on the Mall stands beside the Lahore Museum, which Kipling also headed. The college's annual degree show, usually held early in the year, is open to the public and is one of Lahore's main art events.
