Imam Gammo was a hafiz of the Qur'an and scholar who was appointed imam of the Wazir Khan Mosque in 1779. He is remembered for preserving the mosque in the Sikh period, when the respect he commanded, including from Maharaja Ranjit Singh, kept it in use as a mosque. His small domed tomb stands in the lanes behind the Wazir Khan Mosque and has been restored by the Walled City of Lahore Authority with the Aga Khan Cultural Service, which revived its frescoes and lime plaster. It is usually locked and is reached through a narrow lane beside the mosque.
