Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman was the Companion known as the keeper of the Prophet's ﷺ secret, to whom the Prophet ﷺ entrusted the names of the hypocrites. He fought at Uhud and the Trench, took part in the conquests of Iraq and Persia, and was appointed governor of al-Mada'in by Sayyiduna Umar. He passed away there in 36 AH, shortly after Sayyiduna Ali became caliph. He was first buried on the bank of the Tigris. In 1931-32, when the river threatened the grave, his remains were moved with great ceremony into the shrine of Salman al-Farisi at al-Mada'in, where he now lies beside Salman. The shrine is about 30 km south-east of central Baghdad, close to Taq Kasra.
