The Centre for Manuscripts and Visual Heritage is part of Basra's central public library and occupies a heritage house built in 1898 in Old Basra. Its rooms hold a small museum of the city's maritime past, with coins, stamps, old photographs and paintings, and a library on the history of Basra. It is open from Sunday to Thursday, 8 am to 2 pm. The centre stands next to the Two Minarets Mosque and close to the Shanashil houses, so it is a good starting point for a walk around the old quarter.
