Al-Wattar House is a traditional Baghdadi courtyard house built in 1917 by Muhammad al-Wattar, a notable of the city, on the Tigris in the old Shawaka quarter of Karkh. It is one of the last well-preserved examples of the old domestic architecture of Baghdad. The house has fourteen rooms round a central courtyard, and it has been restored as a heritage house with an art gallery upstairs. It is usually open from midday to 5 pm except on Fridays.
