The Ahmadiya mosque was built in 1796 on Maydan Square by Ahmad al-Katkhuda, deputy of the Mamluk governor Sulayman Pasha the Great, and completed by his brother Abdullah, who added the minaret and a madrasa. Several Baghdadi scholars studied in its school. It is known for its double dome, about 11 m across and faced with Qashani tiles, and its minaret of coloured faience. It stands on Rashid Street at Maydan, near the Muradiya mosque, and has been under restoration in recent years.
