The Royal Jewelry Museum is housed in the palace of Princess Fatma al-Zahra of the Muhammad Ali family, built in the early 1920s in the Zizinia district. It opened as a museum in 1986 and displays the jewellery, decorations and precious objects of the family of Muhammad Ali. The palace is a sight in itself, with painted ceilings, stained-glass windows and decorated bathrooms. It stands beside the Ahmad Yahya Pasha Mosque, a short walk from the Corniche.
