The Antoniadis Gardens were the estate of the Greek merchant John Antoniadis, whose family gave the gardens to the city, and they opened to the public in 1918. They are among the oldest landscaped gardens of Alexandria, laid out in a European style with pools, fountains and marble statues among old trees. The Antoniadis palace stands within the grounds, and the gardens cover around eighteen hectares in the Smouha district, next to the Nouzha gardens and the city zoo. They are a quiet place to walk away from the busy Corniche.
