The Safa Palace was built in 1887 by Count Stephan Zizinia, after whom the Zizinia district is named. It later became the Gloria Hotel, and in 1927 Prince Muhammad Ali Tewfik bought it and enlarged it as a royal palace. Today it is a presidential guest palace and is not open to visitors, but its towers and gardens can be seen from the streets of San Stefano, near the Mahmoud Said Museum.
