This domed shrine standing in the middle of Abu al-Darda Street is honoured in the name of the Companion Abu al-Darda Uwaymir al-Ansari, one of the most learned of the Companions, who is buried in Damascus. Alexandrians have long visited it, and it is a registered monument. Its white walls and green trim make it a landmark of the street, with traffic passing on both sides. It stands near the Amud cemeteries and Pompey's Pillar, on the edge of the old Muslim burial grounds of the city.
