Abu Tahir Isma'il ibn Makki ibn Awf al-Zuhri (485–581 AH) was the leading Maliki jurist of Alexandria in his time, a descendant of the Companion Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf. He taught in the city in the same years as al-Hafiz al-Silafi, when Alexandria was one of the great centres of learning of the Ayyubid age. His tomb on Salah Salem Street is a registered Ayyubid monument in the city centre, a short walk from the Attarin Mosque and Raml Station.
