Abu al-Fath al-Wasiti came from Wasit in Iraq and brought the Rifa'i way to Egypt, settling in Alexandria, where he taught until his passing in 632 AH (1234). He is honoured as one of the early masters of the Sufi paths in Egypt, and his daughter Fatima was the mother of Ibrahim al-Dasuqi. His tomb stands on the street named after him in the al-Labban district, among the shrines and old mosques of the western quarter.
