The mosque of Malika Safiyya was built in 1610 and takes its name from Safiye Sultan, the mother of the Ottoman sultan Mehmed III, to whom the building passed after its first founder. It is one of the purest Ottoman-style mosques in Cairo. Steps lead up to its courtyard and a prayer hall under a central dome, with a pencil-shaped Ottoman minaret. It stands in al-Dawudiyya in Darb al-Ahmar, and parts of the building are in need of repair.
