About Janibak al-Ashrafi Mosque

The mosque of Janibak al-Ashrafi was built in 1427 by the amir Janibak, dawadar of Sultan al-Ashraf Barsbay, who passed away a year later at the age of about twenty-five and is buried in it. Locals know it as the Janbakiyya. Four iwans open onto its courtyard, the entrance is faced with black and white marble, and a small stone dome covers the founder's tomb. It stands on al-Mugharbilin Street in Darb al-Ahmar.
