Ya'qub ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Qari was a reciter of the Qur'an and a narrator of hadith from Madinah who settled in Alexandria and passed away there in 181 AH (797). His narrations appear in the major collections, and he is one of the early scholars whose graves made Alexandria a place of visitation. His shrine stands on Fouad Street, beside the shrine of Sayyiduna Abdullah, son of Sayyiduna Ali Zayn al-Abidin, near the old governorate building in the city centre.
