The Shallalat Gardens take their name from the waterfalls and pools that run through them. They are laid out along the line of the medieval walls of Alexandria and contain the best-preserved stretch of the city's old walls. Paths wind between palm trees, ponds and rock gardens past the towers and stonework of the walls, and the gardens are a favourite place for families to walk. They lie in Bab Sharqi, opposite the mosque of Ahmad al-Mutayyam and near the Alexandria National Museum.
