Marzuq al-Yamani was a Husayni sharif born in Yemen in 602 AH who lost his parents as a boy and studied Qur'an, hadith and language in Makkah and Madinah. He came to Cairo in 632 AH and studied hadith at the Kamiliyya madrasa, and four years later met Ahmad al-Badawi at the mosque of Sayyiduna al-Husayn and became one of his foremost disciples. Mazarat Misr tells that the two shaykhs rallied the people when the Crusade of Louis IX reached Damietta in 648 AH. He is buried in his mosque on al-Gamaliya Street, a few steps from the mosque of Sayyiduna al-Husayn. The mosque has been under restoration in recent years.
