Mahmud Khalil al-Husari was Shaykh of the Egyptian reciters and the first to record the whole Qur'an in the measured murattal style, a recording still used across the world for learning correct recitation. He also recorded it in the reading of Warsh and other transmissions, recited in many countries, and passed away in 1980. His grave is in the Basatin cemeteries south of the Qarafa, beside that of Shaykh Ali al-Dabba'. The large mosques that carry his name in Agouza and 6th of October City are separate places.
