Uqba ibn Amir al-Juhani joined the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah, took part in the conquest of Egypt with Amr ibn al-As, and was governor of Egypt from 44 AH. He narrated nearly a hundred hadith and was one of the Companions who set the qibla of Amr's mosque. He passed away in 58 AH and was buried in the Qarafa, and the district of Mit Uqba in Giza takes its name from his houses there. Salah al-Din built a large dome over his grave, which later rulers restored. His mosque stands in the Qarafa al-Sughra south of Imam al-Shafi'i, and a room beside it holds the graves of Dhul-Nun al-Misri and Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya.
