Muhammad Karim al-Din al-Khalwati was born in 896 AH and was one of the closest disciples of al-Muhammadi al-Dimirdash. He had a gentle nature and a beautiful voice, and would sing the poetry of the Sufis in gatherings of dhikr. He became the leader of the Khalwati path after his shaykh, was a companion of al-Sha'rani on his visits to the shrines, and passed away in 976 AH. His zawiya became the mosque that holds his tomb, on Port Said Street opposite the old Khediviyya school.
